In today's world, we are so busy. Now with school back and things slowly getting back to normal, we find ourselves rushing from one activity/appointment to the next. Even our "leisure" time is busy. We never turn off - our phones or tablets keep us occupied and our attention span is getting shorter.
Not only does this prevent us from connecting and missing moments in our lives, but it also creates the perfect opportunity to targeted. Awareness of our surroundings is essential to safety. It's one of the basic skills we teach in martial arts. Through kicking drills, games and distance control exercises, students start to learn to use their peripheral vision and awareness of surroundings (watch out for that kick!).
Situational awareness is a key component to safety. Avoiding a situation and preventing yourself being targeted is the first defense in personal safety.
